Read backwards essay

Mirror image writing is different from right to left backwards writing. In mirror image writing, each individual letter appears backwards, but the letters are still in left to right order. You can see the effect if you hold up regular text to a mirror.

Visualize a word in your mind. It can be any word, though it is easier to start with shorter (two to four letter) words. Mentally write the word in your mind as you would on a piece of paper, drawing each letter. Flip the word from right to left mentally.

A backwards outline identifies the main points and progression of ideas in an essay after the essay is written. Backwards outlines can help students: Identify problems in organization in their own and their peers' essays (too many subjects in one paragraph, shifts from topic to topic without transition, lack of flow, etc.).

Going backwards forces your brain to focus on each individual word a little more since the flow of the sentences is lost. It’s a trick you’ll find in a lot of university writing guides, especially since there’s a lot of actual handwriting happening on campus. Yes, spellcheck exists. And yes, there are many proofreading tools out there.
